A receptionist is an important ambassador or representative of the company. Your role is to effectively greet the caller and direct them to the proper party. By concentrating on being positive, professional and pleasant, you can be proud of what you do and will tell your customers that your company’s services or products are worth consideration. Keep the following standards in mind:

(1). Answer the phone timely within 3 rings

(2)  Appropriately greet the caller and identify the company or department

(3). Portray a positive and friendly attitude

(4). Ask permission before transferring or placing a caller on hold

(5). Follow through to ensure the caller gets to where they need to go
